Taking the HAIBIKE Adventr to Ice Climbing in Stubaital
An unconventional combination:
Biking & Ice Climbing
Why stick to just one sport when you can combine two for an unforgettable adventure? That’s exactly what Stefan Voitl, certified mountain guide, and Tom Öhler, HAIBIKE Brand Ambassador, set out to do. With the HAIBIKE Adventr as their reliable companion, they headed to Stubaital to take on a unique challenge:
Riding up to the ice climbing spot by eBike and then scaling frozen waterfalls. A perfect blend of skill, strength, and adventure!

The Tour: From the Saddle to the Ice Wall
Their journey kicked off in January, on a cloudy day with light snowfall, creating an atmospheric setting.
The 12-kilometer approach with 600 meters of elevation gain took only 40 minutes on the Adventr – making it the ideal way to reach the climbing start point. Then it was time to park the bike, put on the harness, and climb frozen waterfalls for two hours. The final descent through the icy trails of Stubaital made for the perfect ending to an extraordinary day.

The perfect bike for an adventure like this
Why was the HAIBIKE Adventr the ideal choice for this tour?
Trekking eBike with rear rack – Perfect for long tours and carrying climbing gear.
Full suspension – Ensures comfort on rough trails and adds fun to the downhill ride.
Reliable performance in freezing temperatures – The bike ran flawlessly, even in snow and ice.
Pro tip: Studded tires – Offer maximum grip on icy roads and ensure a safe ascent.
This combination of comfort, stability, and off-road performance makes the Adventr the ultimate choice for adventures that go beyond traditional biking.

Teamwork: When trust is essential for survival
An adventure like this requires more than just athletic ability – it demands a strong team. Stefan, the experienced mountain guide, and Tom, the bike pro, were the perfect match. While Tom took charge on the ascent with the bike, Stefan led the way on the ice.
One of the biggest challenges? Right after the first pitch, 60 meters off the ground, Tom revealed that he has a mild fear of heights. Yet, thanks to mutual trust, he powered through and faced the challenge. A great example of why teamwork is key in extreme situations.

Preparation & Gear: What Do You Need for a Bike & Climb Tour?
Proper gear is essential for a safe and successful tour. In addition to studded tires, warm clothing and heated socks were a must-have for the bike ride. For climbing, they carried a full ice climbing setup:
Half ropes, crampons, climbing harness
Ice screws, carabiners, and ice axes
Specialized climbing boots for maximum grip
Helmet – because safety comes first
And, of course, detailed tour planning to assess weather conditions and potential risks was crucial.
